The Connoisseur Policy for Collectors

This policy provides cover for accidental loss of or damage to your "collections" ocurring anywhere in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. If the appropriate additional premium has been paid, the territorial limits will be extended to Worldwide.

A ‘collection’ is defined as: “an accumulation of inanimate objects gathered for study, comparison, exhibition or as a hobby”.

  • Antique & designer furniture
  • Ceramics, glass & other brittle articles
  • Clocks, instruments & barometers
  • Coins, medals, metalware & militaria
  • Collectables (limit £500 per item)
  • Costume & other jewellery, watches
  • Musical instruments & music boxes
  • Pictures, photographs, autographs, posters & prints
  • Rugs, samplers & tapestries
  • Silver thimbles, silver & silver plated items
  • Stamps & bank notes
  • Textiles, treen, books and comics
  • Other specific items

Loss or damage caused by:

  • deliberate acts
  • theft by persons to whom the property is entrusted
  • theft from unattended motor vehicles
  • atmospheric or climatic conditions
  • corrosion, scratching, bruising, denting, pets, pests or vermin

Limits

  • £500 for any one ‘collectable’ unless specified
  • £1,000 for any one item insured under a specific category unless specified
  • up to a maximum of £20,000 for losses of jewellery and watches, unless such items are kept in a locked safe
  • £250 for losses occurring to items that are posted

Excess
An excess of £50 will apply to claims for unspecified items only.

Your right to cancel
You have the right to cancel your policy for a period of 14 days from the date your policy begins or from the date you receive your policy document if this happens later. If you do cancel in this period you will receive a full premium refund. If you have made a claim during this period, you must reimburse us for any claims monies paid. The period for which you are covered
The policy operates for a period of 12 months. Within that period, you may terminate the policy by giving us written instructions at any time; we may terminate the policy by giving you 7 days’ notice in writing. In either case you may be entitled to a refund of part of your premium.

How to make a complaint
If you wish to make a complaint, you should write to: Connoisseur Policies Ltd and/or Anthony Wakefield & Co Ltd at Suite C2, South House, 21-37 South Street, Dorking, Surrey RH4 2JZ or telephone: 08702 410142.
If you remain dissatisfied, you may also refer this to: The Customer Services Manager, Sterling Insurance Company Limited, 50 Kings Hill Avenue, Kings Hill, West Malling, Kent, ME19 4JX.
You also have the right to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Compensation
We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). In the unlikely event that we cannot meet our obligations, the FSCS will meet the first £2,000 of your claim in full plus 90% of the balance. Further details can be obtained from www.fscs.org.uk

How to make a claim
Full details of how to make a claim are given in the policy. You should telephone Connoisseur Policies Ltd as soon as possible on 08702 410142 with details of what has happened.

Other Important Information

Renewing your policy
At least 21 days before the expiry of your policy, we will invite you via email to renew and notify you of your new premium for the forthcoming year. 3 days before your renewal is due, if you have not already renewed, we will invite you again to make your renewal payment. Renewal payments are made from your customer administration area and are processed by Worldpay.

The law and language applicable to the contract
We propose to choose English Law as the law applicable to the contract unless you and we agree another law before the start date. The policy terms and conditions and other information we are required to supply will be in English. We will communicate with you in English throughout the duration of the policy unless you agree otherwise.

Telephone recording and monitoring
Please note that we may monitor or record telephone calls to ensure the accuracy of information and the quality of service.

Customers with a disability
Upon request, we are able to supply this information in Braille, large print or on audiotape. Please advise us if you require any of these services so that we can then communicate in an appropriate manner. A text-phone facility is also available.
