Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. Does the Policy cover Fire, Theft, Water Damage and Accidental Damage?

A. Yes - a specimen policy wording is available under
Policy Wording heading.

Q2. I have an alarm, but it is not NACOSS or SSAIB approved, do I still qualify for a Connoisseur Policy?

A. Provided that your security meets our requirements in other respects (e.g. adequate locks), you can purchase up to 2 units of cover (£10,000) without the need for an approved alarm. If you require higher limits please complete the
Contact Us section of this website.

Q3. What kind of collections can I insure under this policy?

A. You can insure almost any type of collection, apart from live animals and motor vehicles.

Specific sections have been provided for the larger valued items that our clients normally insure with us. For items worth less than £500 each, we have provided a general heading of “Collectables”,which can cater for anything from stuffed Aardvarks to Zwanziger (an old Austrian coin, equivalent to twenty Kreutzers!)

Q4. Which section would I put a model railway collection under?

A. If each item is worth less than £500, insure as “Collectables”. Insure larger valued items as “Others”.

Q5. What is Treen?

A. We define treen as items that have been produced from turned, or more rarely carved wood. We will also cover small wooden boxes under this category.

Q6. I have a mixed collection of ceramics, posters, paper weights and costume jewellery, all items being worth less than £500 each. Which section should I use?

A. ‘Collectables’, however you may find it cheaper to insure some items under the specific headings if you have a large collection.

Q7. Will this policy affect my existing Household Insurance Policy?

A. It would be wise to inform your insurers that you are considering a separate insurance policy for your collections. Specialist insurance policies of this nature have been available for many years and most insurers are more interested in insuring your general contents. If you encounter a problem with your existing insurers, we will be happy to quote terms for your general household insurance requirements, to include your collection.

Q8. Can I insure jewellery and watches that I wear everyday?

A. Yes, but please note that we can only cover these up to a maximum limit of £20,000.

Q9. Do I have to fit an approved safe for my jewellery and watches?

A. The maximum amount we will pay for losses to jewellery and watches is £20,000 unless such items are kept in a locked safe.

Q10. What happens if I forget my password?

A. Click on Forgotten your Password and it will be e-mailed to you.
