The Connoisseur Policy for Collectors

Additional Policy Information

This policy is designed for the insurance of small to medium sized private collections, ranging from £5,000 to £50,000. If your collection does not fall within this category, or if you cannot meet the underwriting requirements for this policy, we invite you to contact us to see whether we can tailor specific cover for you.

We are able to accommodate collections above £50,000 and up to £100,000 but you will need to contact us to arrange this for you.

Disclosure
As this policy is based on your meeting various criteria, in the form of an agreement to a Declaration which is part of the Buy Online sectio
n of this website, you must ensure that you qualify for the insurance on offer. Failure to do so will prejudice your right to claim from this policy.

Scope of cover
We will pay for accidental loss of or damage to your 'collections' (as defined below) occurring anywhere in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. If the appropriate additional premium has been paid, the territorial limits will be extended to Worldwide. However, please note the following limitations:

  • up to a maximum of £20,000 for items of jewellery and watches, unless such items are kept in a locked safe.
  • £250 for losses occurring to items that are posted
  • £500 for any one item insured under the definition of a ‘collectable’
  • £1,000 for any one item insured under a specific category (e.g. ceramics, glass or other brittle articles) unless this is specified and agreed with the insurers.

Collection
We define a collection as “an accumulation of inanimate objects gathered for study, comparison, exhibition or as a hobby”. We are specifically interested in insuring items of an antique or historical nature, although contemporary items and collectables are equally welcome.

Items over £1,000
If you wish to insure items with an individual value greater than £1,000, these can only be fully covered with the prior approval of your insurers. In most cases you will be asked to supply us with copies of professional valuations or purchase receipts. Pending agreement with underwriters, any items that you wish to have specified in the policy will be covered up to £1,000.

Unit purchase and cancellation
Cover is purchased in units of insurance. Each unit provides £5,000 of cover. Cost per unit varies according to the type of collection to be covered. Purchase is by the secure WorldPay service (WorldPay is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group) against your chosen credit card.

Additional units can be purchased online during the period of insurance, up to a maximum overall limit of £50,000. Above that, you will need to contact us. Additional premium will be charged to your credit card on a pro rata basis to the next renewal date.

Administration and renewals
Once your policy has been purchased, you will be provided with a user name and password. This will enable you to check the status of your policy, notify us of any changes to your personal circumstances, or to your collection, and to make a claim.

At least 21 days before the expiry of your policy, we will invite you via email to renew and notify you of your new premium for the forthcoming year. 3 days before your renewal is due, if you have not already renewed, we will invite you again to make your renewal payment. Renewal payments are made from your customer administration area and are processed by Worldpay.
